Eighty Years of Animation Voice Artists [Infographic]

This awesome infographic charts eight decades worth of the most prolific, talented and influential voice actors who between them have defined the characters closest to our hearts.  As Billy West has pointed out, anyone can say “look at me! I’m Will Smith playing a talking horse!”, but it takes something special to really step outside yourself, and immerse yourself in the role of a cartoon character. These are some of the greats who have done, and continue to do, just that.

Really? The South Park guys are on there, but not Frank Welker? WTF? This is idiotic.

Cree Summer (Penny, Elmira, Susie Carmichael, Foxxy Love), Rob Paulsen (Pinky, Yakko, Raphael, Gusto Gummi, Arthur), and Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime, Eeyore, Monterey Jack) should be included.

    Jim Cummings

Kath Soucie did not do Bubbles from the Power Puff Rangers.  Tara Strong did.  She should also be included on this list since she did Timmy from the Fairy Godparents, Raven from Teen Titans, the singing voice for Meg Griffin as well as a whole other bunch of credits.

Hank Azaria? Mark Hamil? Phil LaMaar? John DiMaggio?

    Tara Strong was Bubbles.

I know this list is well ment and all, but it’s so poorly researched.

What about FRANK WELKER?! He is THE voice actor. He’s a voice actor’s voice actor.

Besides I wouldn’t count Billy West as the voice of Ren, since he took over the role after the original creative team got fired. As much as I love Billy West, his Ren was not as good as John K.’s.

    Rob Paulson? Grey DeLisle?

  • Juan Aguilar

Rob Paulsen, Cree Summer, and above all Frank Welker are notably missing. The list is incomplete without him.

Hi, Matt here. Just chiming in, I didn’t create the infographic, just posted it  because its by far the best of its kind – heck, it’s the only one of its kind that I’ve seen. I agree there are a couple of errors and the omission of Welker is just plain wrong. For that matter, I’d have liked to see Dana Snyder and Jon Benjamin representing the new guard. But it’s the only infographic out there and for all its flaws I think its a very cool effort at honoring the voices of the last eighty years.

Mostly, I think it’s awesome that my readers are hardcore animation enthusiasts. So by all means keep the criticism coming, just please understand I didn’t create the thing, nor did I have like, 2 or 3 to choose from. There’s one voice infographic out there and I posted it.

    Have a great weekend!

The two names I can’t believe aren’t included are Hank Azaria and Steve Blum. They are two of the greatest living voice actors. Seriously, what were you THINKING?

What about Bill Scott? The voice of Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, Mr. Peabody, George of the Jungle, Tom Slick, Super Chicken

  • Raybear

WHAT THE HELL!!!  Where is the voice god himself FRANK WELKER!?? I know two of the people listed above refer to him as the best of the best, and you left him out?!?
